nandua high school night of the arts
NMS students had their work on display at the NHS night of the arts. It was great to see NHS I once taught at NMS. Congrats to all of the artists.
2022 what lifts you?
Each student in art class participating in the school mural inspired by street artist Kelsey Montague. We are inviting everyone to participate by putting on a feather to represent something that lifts their spirits.
2019 Renovating the NMS rock garden! In the fall of 2016 students created a community garden that needs to be revived and remade. The spring students of 2019 are moving the location and cleaning it up!
2010 "Let the music guide your hands" were the directions for this Kandinsky inspired nonrepresentational drawing. We listened to several types of music to let our mood determine our marks.
2018 Looking abstractly is a difficult thing to do. Nathan Butler did just that when he photographed his favorite shoes for an abstract photography lesson. He was drawn to the zigzag pattern and the diamond patterns he found when you look closely.

One of Mrs. Clark's favorite artists....
eating in art class?
Yes, we are eating in art class! Mrs. Clark created a lesson about nutrition and advertising. Her focus was on how many big businesses use smart graphics and tricks of the advertising trade to make unhealthy food look very appealing to us in the grocery store. Some products are even disguised as "health food" when in reality they are nothing more than a lot of preservatives and ingredients we cannot pronounce.
The students are learning to rely on the nutrition label and ingredients of a product rather than the front of the box! They are in the process of creating projects of their own choosing- to share a REAL health food product with their class. Some students are creating music videos, some are choosing to cook a dish, some are making their own billboard to hang around school, and all students are writing a paper based on their research. Our goal is to educate those around us about what we have learned and share new foods with each other.

What's happening in the art room?
Seen this painting before? Students studied Grant Wood's famous work "American Gothic" and then appropriated it by creating a mural as a set for their own portraits. Students were asked to bring in a valuable possession to hold that would represent who they are. After deciding where to stand, I took their photo as their "American Portrait."

2015
Using all of the school photos from 2015, Art Tag students created a mural for our hallway! This will be a new art tag tradition.
7th Grade Students used their new chrome books to create digital collages using the prompt "Let your Imagination Fly" which was the theme for this year's National PTA Reflections Contest.
