Fall 2021
I am happy be back to school after a few weeks of maternity leave. We are working full force outside in our rock and raised bed gardens this fall. The 8th graders just planted spinach, mustard greens, turnips, beets, carrots, cilantro, and bok choy. Many students tried rainbow kale for the first time this week and surprisingly liked it raw. I am proud of my students for stepping out of their comfort zone! I always enjoy taking a break to paint a new face mask. 7th graders are getting creative on theirs! check them out on their blog! |
Mrs. Sharrow took some maternity photos when I was expecting baby Walter.

I am proud and humbled to be awarded with the title of Middle School Art Teacher of the Year for the State of Virginia by the VAEA. I have been a member of the Virginia Art Education Association since I was an undergraduate student at James Madison University and have been a constant member of the National Art Education Association as well. I am beyond grateful for my amazing mentors and peers in the art education field for sharing their inspiration, knowledge, and passions with me as I have taught over the past decade. I strive to become a better teacher and artist every day. I am so blessed to be at Nandua Middle School.
My recently created Bitmoji shows exactly how I feel about our current state during the Coronavirus. I am just going with the flow and am not stressing over it. I hope my classroom continues to be a place of zen warmth.
Mrs. Clark's gardens
I am excited to start our very own community raised bed garden at school! One of my favorite hobbies is growing my own food. These photos show my raised bed gardens, greenhouse, in ground garden, and orchard in my backyard.

spring 2019
My favorite project this spring was renovating the rock garden. The 7th and 8th graders helped remove the old and we moved the location and re-designed it to be a more interactive space for everyone to enjoy. The students who painted the bench asked me to paint their quote on the front so I was happy to help.

Cooking with mrs. Clark!
One of Mrs. Clark's favorite hobbies happens to be cooking. Not just cooking, but also blogging about cooking healthy food! About two years ago, her life changed due to a documentary she watched on Netflix. The film is called "Fed Up" and it addresses the problems with America's food system. She came up with a lesson to highlight some of these problems and inform her students of the difference between "real food" and "fake food" and how they can help or hurt your body. The students will be previewing some home made foods made by Mrs. Clark. Here are some photos to help explain the process! Check out her blog called Greenisin!

painting tables
One of my favorite ways to paint is on furniture. I sell it, give them away as gifts, or keep them for my own house. I use liquid acrylic paint and spray paint on most of my designs.

2016
I was recently honored to have an article written about my work in the Eastern Shore News.
2016 museum education
Last year I began a new curriculum with my art tag students in art museums across VA. I created virtual tours before our trip that the students used on Ipads when they were visiting the galleries. I began this work when doing my Masters Thesis at JMU a few years ago.
This oyster painting was sold at a Wounded Warriors auction in Wachapreague in 2014. This photo was taken in the JMU arboretum in the Spring before Graduate School Graduation.

Many of my paintings are about what I love- that includes food! Kale is my favorite food!
Kale, 2015
Here are a few favorite pictures from my wedding September 2014! Some of my students painted a white dress and we had a "trash the dress" party at my house.
After earning a Bachelors degree in Studio Art at James Madison University, I began teaching at Pungoteague Elementary School in 2009. I taught for four years at PES before heading back to school to earn a masters degree in art education. I recently completed my book Using Instructional Technology to bring Museum Experiences to Art Students. I am very excited to be at Nandua MIddle School for my fourth year and know it will be a great year of art!

This mural was done in Bell Hall in 2009 when Mrs. Clark was in college and worked as a camp counselor at Massanetta Springs Summer Camp.
This mural "Eat Clean, Train Dirty" was done in my gym, Combative Athletic Club, when we opened in the old Onancock School in 2017.
These are t-shirts designed and created by Mrs. Clark for her gym. I completed the mural in our group fitness room in 2018.

Inspiration
Last year's keynote speaker at Accomack County's convocation meeting was Scott Habeeb, a principal from Salem, Va. His inspirational message inspired me to create this site as well as use his website as a resource when creating my art curriculum. The button below is a link to Scott's website.
