8th graders studied Whitefield Lovell, a contemporary artist who works from old postcards, photo booth images, and mug shots of African Americans. He recreates the portraits using charcoal and conte crayon, adding his own found objects to the bottom of each portrait. Students took a black and white selfie on their chrome books and then created a charcoal drawing using tracing of their own image. They were asked to add an image, photo, or object that was meaningful to them at the bottom of their drawing. I love how they came out! Comments are closed.
